Breaking new ground
By incorporating more automation and mechanization into the construction process, companies are able to reduce the physical demands on workers, increase efficiency, and improve the overall safety of the work environment. The potential for increasing productivity, efficiency and flexibility on construction sites is being tapped by innovations in building construction and digital services.
On new builds and sites surrounded by other structures – at 22.6 kg per main panel (0.75 x 1.50 m), the robust DokaXlight formwork is cost-saving and easy to use for CIP concrete structures of any type or size. One person can safely handle this formwork with no crane lifts required, so work can proceed faster and resources are used more efficiently. Visitors can see the novelty for themselves: Doka presents the all-rounder DokaXlight featuring several innovations with newly developed components enabling the established wall formwork system to also be used as slab formwork.
At this year’s edition of Concrete Expo Doka is presenting AluStax, an aluminium-based shoring frame system that is lightweight yet durable and possesses a competitive load capacity in comparison to steel systems for the first time. The frame system is highly versatile and can be used for multiple applications, including below grade levels or mezzanine levels. Integrated safety devices ensure high level of occupational safety for workers. Both the AluStax with modular panelized top construction and the AluStax with lose top construction will be on show.

Good news also in the area of scaffolding: Doka has completed its 100% acquisition of AT-PAC, a US-based scaffolding company in which it held a stake since 2020. Customers will be able to convince themselves of the advantages of this alliance this year’s CCE: A One-stop-shop for formwork and scaffolding, offering customers everything from a single source, scaffolding for both rent and sale globally, an outstanding price-performance ratio and a product meeting all safety criteria and standards for highly developed markets. In addition to a worldwide network and a high-quality design, customer will also benefit from the scaffolding management software HiVis® as well as further services and software applications. At the Doka exhibit, a Ringlock stair tower from AT-PAC will be on display, highlighting the company’s comprehensive offerings in formwork, shoring, and scaffolding.

Monitoring the temperature and pressure of concrete during the concreting and curing process is a crucial aspect for engineers and construction professionals in building projects. This is where digital solutions can help to support data-driven decision-making to optimise efficiency. In the digital services area, Doka is presenting the latest version of Concremote. It combines the proven maturity method with modern measurement and information technology. Concremote calculates the compressive strength of concrete using temperature sensors, thus reducing cycle times and CO2 emissions. Digital experts will also be on hand to answer questions on how to increase safety during critical pouring operations and how to use transparent and automated documentation of measurement data for quality control.

Doka is celebrating the success of its Dokadek 30 and DokaTruss tables at Canadian Concrete Expo. Dokadek 30 is a beamless, hand-operated formwork system that saves time by eliminating overhead work during stripping. The system is made of a lightweight steel frame covered with a wood/plastic composite sheet. DokaTruss tables is the fastest flying table form for setting and stripping large slab formwork at high cycle speeds and can be designed for large sizes with a quick height adjustment and simple pin connections for stripping.

As part of the Austrian-based Umdasch Group, Doka has set itself ambitious sustainability targets. This is in recognition of the growing importance of sustainability and the significance of ESG criteria in customers' investment decisions. In a major project, Doka calculated the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of most 6,000 products: Transparency is a cornerstone of Doka's path to zero CO2 before 2040. By making CO2 emissions data available to customers at the level of individual products, the level of transparency is unique in the construction industry. In this way, Doka is supporting the aims of its customers to reduce their own carbon footprint as part of the supply chain. Doka now also knows where the main CO2 levers are along the entire life cycle of a product and is continuously reducing its carbon footprint by introducing new measures along the entire value chain: from the procurement of raw materials, through production and transport to the construction site, the use and recycling phase at the end of a product's life.
